Let's walk out on that proverbial limb, journey into the realm of potential and questioning related to a classroom, better referred to as many hypnotists term "creating positive learning experiences through vivid images and imagination"... After all isn't that what an educator aspires to achieve? You know, creating an environment to trigger neural pathways so the mind can grow to question and determine facts and/or succeed in life? Educators must push toward impacting the young mind in any and all creative manner, many times utilizing already existing modalities (Neuro-Linguistic Programming, some self-hypnosis, etc). Based on some past posts related to imagination building and self-help/realization, why not. After all, how powerful can education be when the environment is positive, calm, organized, and imaginative.
Could the techniques used in self hypnosis and neural programming be applied to the K-12 and post secondary classroom? The answer is a resounding, yet guarded, yes. Why am I hedging the affirmative answer you may be wondering. Creating neural pathways is dependent upon one critical factor; that factor is that the subject, and client and student and teacher has to WANT THE SUCCESS. Doesn't it? You may be thinking, "Well 'duh', everyone wants to succeed". After all, who doesn't want to be successful! The problem isn't the conscious mind which wants to succeed, the problem lies in the subconscious mind, it's creative images (you know, the imagination). This is where maybe years of negative chatter has created vivid "failure-like" images; you know the words like - NEVER, NOT, CAN'T, SHOULDN'T, NEVER, NO and so on. This scenario of a created "reality" by negative chatter plays out even without the experience(s) of trying. Fear of failure also strongly exists here, very strongly. Instead of teaching things like Edison's hundreds of failed attempts while creating his light bulb, children are programmed to not "FAIL", and the exam is a prime example. This pressure does not only come from the world of education but it comes from home as well. So how can it be changed. Sadly, some social-economic environmental factors also resist change. Now this is where you need to use your powerful imagination. What if at the beginning of the school day, eight thirty (8:30) o'clock, fifteen (15) to twenty (20) minutes were used to guide the student body into mindful thinking, whereby they were to develop vivid images of success or images that would stay with them in their learning environment? Then at ten thirty (10:30) o'clock the same exact mindful thinking (meditation) happened again? And the mindfulness was practiced a final time at one forty five (1:45) o'clock? Do you think if the thought language was one of achieving success, or positive test outcomes (powerful for P-SAT and SAT time) that those images would begin to become reality? Based on the plethora of studies, I believe an educational institution is rife for this activity and it's student body (and educators) could excel. Remember, suggestions tend toward dominant thought, or "thoughts become things". And, as we learned in previous posts, suggestions become permanent with repetition. When it comes to willpower or imagination, imagination usually always wins. To steal a line out the old Rod Serling's Twilight Zone series, "imagine if you will, a place of learning where using the imagination to create vivid images, images where imagination tends to create reality". You have an audience (a captive one) and the much needed safe venue (the "school house"). The only thing lacking is the tool to tweak the product, or so you may believe. A thing worth noting is that the conscious and unconscious mind are two separate entities with two distinct functions. Next time you are teaching a fact, try the following stealth attack. Tell your students to close your eyes and "Try your hardest to forget x and you will find you cannot. Try harder and harder to forget x and you cannot. The harder you try to forget x, the stronger you cannot forget x. X becomes locked into your brain the harder you try to forget it." This tactic is known as the Law of Reverse Effect. It is akin to asking someone to not think about a polka dotted blue elephant. Language alone and how it is used is a very powerful teaching tool. Words such as fortunately, naturally, luckily, innocently, happily, necessarily, etc. are importantly powerful words in your toolbox. "Naturally, you will begin to see the value of what I am saying to you right now", or "Fortunately, you start to realize the unlimited ways you can easily become aware of how using my advice will help you to truly accomplish your goals". Can you see what is happening with the sentence? Said sentence doesn't, does not, have to be grammatically correct or have proper syntax because the receiving mind will only process the intended message of feeling fortunate or natural. The intention word(s) is picked up and the brain will begin the process of the feeling demanded in the first word. The rest of the sentence presupposes everything that will happen. Stacking many kinds of the aforementioned presuppositions in sentences makes them extremely more powerful. The following powerful sentences I have used in hypnosis, "Naturally, as you start to realize the unlimited ways you can easily become aware of how my advice will help you to truly accomplish your goals more rapidly and effectively as it relates to your projects, you'll start imagining the success you can actually achieve with my help and guidance. And don't I know as do you, how soon you'll realize the benefits of this session, because it's important that you know before you've comfortably continued the process of learning these powerful concepts." The subconscious has determined that the presuppositions are factually true due to the presupposition words, the student knows what you do "naturally" and the subconscious accepts it as true. Even educators lack self confidence sometimes, but you have all you need. To steal a line from an internationally acclaimed hypnotherapist and author, YOU ARE ENOUGH (also the title of her book), "everything you need has been taught to you, everything you want you can imagine and realize, and everything you desire you are capable of achieving". I see the road to implementing aforementioned changes and ideas littered with all kinds of stumbling blocks. Be they the local boards of education, state boards of education and possibly your local citizenry, there will be doubting Thomas' in your midst. After all, it does fly in the face of popular thinking. Some people may fear that this educational direction may be associated with brainwashing. Well it is not, it is just a tool to guide children to a successful education, a greater self-confidence, and a happier existence. It may even develop into a more creative nation once again. And as a parent, wouldn't you be extremely irate if all educational weapons in a school system's arsenal were NOT used to guide your child to excel. Much of what I do as a hypnotist is to help create a stronger, healthier you. My job is to help you help yourself to create a high self-esteem and a being of strong self-worth. It is with the use of creating vivid images and the individual's imagination that assists you to heal or change yourself, health or outlook on life in general. So why do we not take this one simple little idea and use it to teach our children well. We're all meant to excel and expand, and we're all students of life. Imagine your imagination changing your life into a positive, happier, more fulfilling existence. For all those who share or tell this story to your administrator(s), let them know that I would be more than willing to assist setting something up with in-services and classes. Welcome to Lakes Region Hypnosis Center's information sharing blogAuthorRich Burke I would like to begin my blogging career (sounds funny for a 60-something to be saying) by just introducing myself and some of the services we provide. My goal is to introduce you all to me and the wonderful worlds of hypnosis and other alternative, less expensive (in the long run) healing modalities we provide and clearly work. My intention is to also educate the public through my blogging.
I am a 67 year old who refuses to retire. I have worn many hats in my many careers, one could say it took me a long time to discover what I wanted to be or do when I grew up. I will say it did take me a while though. I've been part of management team where I was responsible for a multi-million dollar communication budget in a large financial institution. I left the corporate world as a thirty something and became a healthcare worker in a county nursing home. This was a very rewarding vocation by the way, but the greedy corporate world began sticking their fingers in the proverbial pot and infesting that career with their greed and gluttony. But, that's a whole different blogging path for the politically inclined, and does not belong here. I finished my career as a political action coordinator for a national public employee union and was forced out to pasture. Yes folks, even the unions have their dark side. But, I've always wanted to help others along the way, a healer so to speak. Whether a human client or a pet client (Animal Reiki attuned), I have always been driven to open up my heart, mind and arms to those who need some assistance along the way. I began seeking a healing path for myself and something to provide comfort to others. I entered my chrysalis stage, my transition to the more spiritual path, that of a provider of proven alternative healing modalities. I became a Reiki Master/Teacher, actually being attuned through a local Reiki Master from Gilmanton and another from the West Coast. and still felt there there was more. I began various training along the way, as a physical medium, a crystal worker, and so on and so forth. I rounded out my resume at the Thomas Institute of Hypnosis and the National Guild of Hypnotists becoming a Certified Consulting Hypnotist. And this is the "Readers Digest" version of how I got to where I am now. Operating out of Tilton, New Hampshire, ergo the name Lakes Region Hypnosis Center; we also perform Reiki healing sessions under Peaceful Light Healing (or PLH). PLH was my first organization and is now a part of our Lakes Region Hypnosis Center operation. Effectively combining both powerful tools (Hypnosis & Reiki) and we have created a healing modality second to none and without OPIODS. Healing others is a love and passion for us. Continuous education in the art of hypnosis on a regular basis, as well as consuming mandatory reading material is part of our modus operandi and in our operations manual. We also teach healing techniques at various metaphysical facilities and institutions. Sharing information at community events and local libraries, schools, and other public and private venues is always on our agenda. So please, continue to watch this website for updated events. Maybe learn a thing or two about hypnosis, Reiki, or even a bit about physical mediumship. But, be sure to watch my blogs for upcoming information to help demystify hypnosis and bring it to the forefront of where it belongs. The subconscious mind is a powerful tool for healing; and remember this, "if you can think it, it CAN happen". And don't forget about the Reiki! Future posts will include myths and phobias of hypnotism, pain management, healthy living, stress and stressors, encountering negative suggestions and negative self talk, self hypnotism, emotional trauma, mind-body spirit, subconscious mind, daily affirmations and intentions, circumstance or predetermined, deja vu all over again, breathing techniques, Reiki, chakra centers, Past Life Regression "real or not" and many more topics on healing. So until the next post, Breath - Relax - Heal. Namasate P.S. Please let me know how I performed in my first blog post ever. Archives
