This article was provoked by a conversation I had with a friend, Bill. And the news is good ladies and gentlemen. Read on and discover why many do not have to silently suffer. OVERVIEW
Erectile dysfunction can be one of the most discouraging and disheartening physical problems a man can ever encounter in his lifetime. Not being able to achieve (or maintain) an erection while still feeling sexual desire is psychologically frustrating and puts strain on a relationship with even the most understanding partner. ED has both medical and psychological causes and sometimes it's a combination of both. If a man is able to obtain and sustain an erection under certain circumstances (like self-stimulation), but not others like with a partner, the situation is often psychological in origin. In some cases the cause is physiological, such as with a vascular problem that affects blood flow, to which there is a psychological component. Your mind could play an important role in overcoming ED, regardless of the source. Many of my clients with ED report positive results using hypnosis to help get and maintain stiffness. THE PHYSICAL CAUSE An erection is achieved when the arteries that bring the blood to the penis swell with blood and press closed the veins that allow blood to circulate back into the body. The contained blood and erectile tissue form and maintain the erection. Dysfunction occurs when not enough blood flows to the penis to be maintain long enough for sustained activity. Medical causes include cardiovascular conditions like hardening of the arteries, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. All of these conditions negatively affect blood flow. Neurological and nerve disorders can also interrupt nerve signals and prevent achieving the desired state. Diabetes may also play a role in ED, because one of the long term effects of that condition is nerve damage. Also, certain medications contribute to ED, including antidepressants and blood pressure treatments. Men who smoke, habitually drink more than two alcoholic drinks a day, and are overweight have at a higher risk to develop ED. And of course there is the battle with time itself whereby ED likely increases with age. Only 4 percent of men experience it at age 50. However, that number increases to 20 percent when men reach 60 years old. And about half the male population that are 75 experience ED. THE BRAIN'S ROLE Erections begin in the brain. This fact that has been clinically proven in many, many studies over the years. ED can also be caused by any of the following: - a past negative sexual experience, - feelings of shame about sex, - the circumstances of a particular encounter, - a lack of intimacy with a partner, - stressors that have nothing to do with sex at all. Recalling one episode of ED can contribute to future episodes. Urologists around the world state that an erection begins when a touch or thought nudges the brain to send signals of arousal into the nerves of the penis. Hypnosis addresses the purely psychological aspect, and can contribute to the treatment of the mixed origins. Many urologists concur that whether the problem is physiological or psychological in its origin, the psychological aspect is able to acquiesce to hypnosis and its related relaxation techniques. One 50 year old, certified hypnotist who had suffered a heart attack by the age of 30 shared his story. "I know how ED can be a combination of physiological, neurological and psychological factors. In a lot of cases, the medical impairment does lead to a psychological increase in the physiological problems. You think you won't get it up, "so you don't.'". I hope you remember my past posts about self talk and thoughts becoming things because this brings that post home to roost. HYPNOSIS SOLUTIONS As a Certified, Consulting Hypnotist I recommend first working directly with a hypnotist in person to immediately learn some hypnosis exercises and techniques you can practice on your own. Simple self-hypnosis exercise begins with relaxation, eventually refining a focus on creating and maintaining an erection. Since anxiety is such a critical component of ED, my technique starts with about 5 to 10 minutes of closed eyes relaxation. One example of how I instruct clients is by directing them to "Close the eyes and relax them so much that you allow yourself to imagine they are so heavy and relaxed that they just won't open. Go ahead and give in to that feeling that they just won't open, and tell yourself mentally how heavy they are. Then try to open them and notice you cannot." At this point I guide them in several minutes of focused awareness on deepening relaxation with every breath. Once my client is completely, thoroughly relaxed and breathing easily, they are guided to turn their focus to imagining your partner in sensual detail. "Imagine you have a dial and you can increase blood flow to anywhere in your body, including your penis. Just keep turning up that dial and increasing your blood flow." Visualization helps maintain the clients erection. Many times I will suggest closing their fists and imagining the power of the erection. "As long as your fists are closed, your erection is closed." Those closed fists can also create connection with their partner as you hold hands. I contend that hypnosis doesn't always focus on getting an erection, but instead on the psychological issues that are preventing it. For example, sometimes, emotionally damaging past experience(s) can be released with hypnosis. Regressing to the experience and releasing it is many times a benefit of the session. As I have stated in other posts, The brain does not know the difference between reality and imagination, so in hypnosis we are able to imagine things differently. Erectile dysfunction may be the first sign of a serious problem such as cardiovascular disease or diabetes. Regardless of its source, I strongly urge anyone experiencing it to please seek out a medical professional. As we wrap up this entry today, I would like to thank my friend Bill for our conversation at the lake and inspiring me to write this particular story. Could relationships be changed or enhanced or or even saved by seeking out a hypnotist? How many men could change there lives emotionally and psychologically if only they sought a hypnotist instead of a little blue pill? Welcome to Lakes Region Hypnosis Center's information sharing blogAuthorRich Burke I would like to begin my blogging career (sounds funny for a 60-something to be saying) by just introducing myself and some of the services we provide. My goal is to introduce you all to me and the wonderful worlds of hypnosis and other alternative, less expensive (in the long run) healing modalities we provide and clearly work. My intention is to also educate the public through my blogging.
I am a 67 year old who refuses to retire. I have worn many hats in my many careers, one could say it took me a long time to discover what I wanted to be or do when I grew up. I will say it did take me a while though. I've been part of management team where I was responsible for a multi-million dollar communication budget in a large financial institution. I left the corporate world as a thirty something and became a healthcare worker in a county nursing home. This was a very rewarding vocation by the way, but the greedy corporate world began sticking their fingers in the proverbial pot and infesting that career with their greed and gluttony. But, that's a whole different blogging path for the politically inclined, and does not belong here. I finished my career as a political action coordinator for a national public employee union and was forced out to pasture. Yes folks, even the unions have their dark side. But, I've always wanted to help others along the way, a healer so to speak. Whether a human client or a pet client (Animal Reiki attuned), I have always been driven to open up my heart, mind and arms to those who need some assistance along the way. I began seeking a healing path for myself and something to provide comfort to others. I entered my chrysalis stage, my transition to the more spiritual path, that of a provider of proven alternative healing modalities. I became a Reiki Master/Teacher, actually being attuned through a local Reiki Master from Gilmanton and another from the West Coast. and still felt there there was more. I began various training along the way, as a physical medium, a crystal worker, and so on and so forth. I rounded out my resume at the Thomas Institute of Hypnosis and the National Guild of Hypnotists becoming a Certified Consulting Hypnotist. And this is the "Readers Digest" version of how I got to where I am now. Operating out of Tilton, New Hampshire, ergo the name Lakes Region Hypnosis Center; we also perform Reiki healing sessions under Peaceful Light Healing (or PLH). PLH was my first organization and is now a part of our Lakes Region Hypnosis Center operation. Effectively combining both powerful tools (Hypnosis & Reiki) and we have created a healing modality second to none and without OPIODS. Healing others is a love and passion for us. Continuous education in the art of hypnosis on a regular basis, as well as consuming mandatory reading material is part of our modus operandi and in our operations manual. We also teach healing techniques at various metaphysical facilities and institutions. Sharing information at community events and local libraries, schools, and other public and private venues is always on our agenda. So please, continue to watch this website for updated events. Maybe learn a thing or two about hypnosis, Reiki, or even a bit about physical mediumship. But, be sure to watch my blogs for upcoming information to help demystify hypnosis and bring it to the forefront of where it belongs. The subconscious mind is a powerful tool for healing; and remember this, "if you can think it, it CAN happen". And don't forget about the Reiki! Future posts will include myths and phobias of hypnotism, pain management, healthy living, stress and stressors, encountering negative suggestions and negative self talk, self hypnotism, emotional trauma, mind-body spirit, subconscious mind, daily affirmations and intentions, circumstance or predetermined, deja vu all over again, breathing techniques, Reiki, chakra centers, Past Life Regression "real or not" and many more topics on healing. So until the next post, Breath - Relax - Heal. Namasate P.S. Please let me know how I performed in my first blog post ever. Archives
